Like all professional translators, I subscribe to the principles of accuracy, confidentiality and ethical conduct, as outlined, for instance, by the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators.

In view of my professional background, my major fields of specialisation are literature and linguistics, education and the social sciences. However my areas of training, experience and expertise extend beyond this. The bulk of my translation work has been from German into English, targeting speakers of various standard varieties of English, and largely in the following areas:

  • Academic books and papers (linguistics, social sciences, education)
  • Media and advertising (press releases, product launches, corporate image guidelines, corporate newsletters, websites, tourist guides)
  • Airline in-flight magazines
  • CD album booklets
  • Documentary film scripts
  • Subtitles for short films and podcasts
  • Biographies
  • Summaries
  • Dust jacket texts

My language studies and teacher training have honed my awareness of and expertise in meaning, usage, accuracy, and style, particularly with an eye for grammar and orthography. Some of my editing and proofreading commissions have included:

  • Books, articles and papers for publication
  • Company profiles, yearbooks, press releases, web pages
  • Project proposals, conferences and events
  • Summaries, abstracts, copy edits
  • Advertising flyers, brochures

  • Advertising flyers, brochures
  • Writing guides
  • Teaching material for online courses
  • Self-study material
  • Book and play reviews
  • Teasers for theatre productions
  • Poetry and prose
